Questions about bamboo
Can a bamboo clump be checked ?
Yes, we have designed an anti-rhizome barrier (BAR 70). This is 70-cm high plastic film to be installed at the edge of the clump at an angle of approximately 15°. The rhizomes will run into the plastic “wall” and grow up it before eventually growing up into the open air. It is best for the film to stick up about 1 cm above ground level so that rhizomes trying to replant themselves can be spotted. In this way the plantation will become denser and need less maintenance.
Can bamboo plants grow in water ?
No, they are not aquatic plants, they grow above river banks. They are moreover excellent plants for maintaining and stabilising embankments.
Can bamboo plants be got rid of ?
Yes, the culms must be cut at ground level, then all young shoots that emerge must be eliminated (it’s a good opportunity for eating them). After this has been repeated several times, the reserves will be exhausted in one season and the rhizomes will quickly wither.
Are bamboo plants frost resistant ?
90% of the bamboo varieties we have on offer are hardy and can withstand negative temperatures
(-20° on average). Bamboo leaves are persistent, which means that you can have a compact hedge all year round.
Is it true that a bamboo can grow one meter a day ?
Given the necessary conditions (the right variety, climate and season), a bamboo can grow over one meter a day.
How high are the tallest bamboo plants ?
Here at the Bambouseraie, the highest ones are almost 23 meters tall ; however some tropical varieties can grow over 40 meters in their native lands.
Are the articles on sale made here ?
Some are made by local craftspeople, others are imported from Asia.
