Bamboo stems are exceptionally resistant and lightweight (hollow stem), and can therefore compete with steel and even replace it in scaffolding.

Bamboo can be used to make a multitude of everyday objects. Infact over 12,000 different uses have been referenced (ex: “The book of bamboo”, by David Farrelly).
It can be used for basketwork and for making household containers such as dishes, utensils and even furniture.
It is also widely used for making musical instruments.
