Exotic garden

The Bambouseraie is an exotic garden, situated in the South of France at the foothills of the Cévennes. An exceptional garden unique in Europe, that is home to both remarkable plantations of bamboo and majestic trees. The man responsable for creating this exceptional garden goes by the name of Eugène Mazel a spice trader who returned to his family property in 1855 after travelling the world and who decides to fulfill his ambition by creating an garden enriched with all the exotic plants he has discovered on his travels.

The park, which extends over 15 hectares (37 acres), invites cultural discoveries but also family outings and is a unique setting in which to experience the rare and exotic beauty that La Bambouseraie has to offer.
The Estate itself has been used on several occasions as a film set and the films “The Wages of Fear” and “Paul and Virginia” amongst others, were filmed here.
The Bambouseraie is a hub for the diffusion of cultural creations and is home to both an eclectic mix of artistic installations and contemporary gardens.

Today the park is grouped into several zones, amongst them a dense bamboo forest known as the bambusarium, a charming  Japanese garden, an amazing maze, a beautiful Laotian village, a meandering Valley of the Dragon, an anagram of 'Gardon' the river through which it flows, a beautiful antique greenhouse and a flower garden bursting with colour.
