Anne DELFIEU

Anne DELFIEU, a Land Art adept, was born in 1947 in Paris, where she lives and works. "Here we have a very unobtrusive work of art. At first sight it looks like ragged-edged shreds of bark ; net works she calls intertwining wood ; oblong haphazard overlapping shapes she describes as sky smiles or clouds stretching. Then one starts to look more attentively ; when one looks closely, a sort of object-skeleton is revealed ; white from ashes, red from earth ; a sense of sober sensuality is felt ; the rough patches in the cardboard act as traps for light, which bends and is lost ; the work of art acquires a meaning, strength, emotion ; it seems to shiver with fragiles palpitations. This is not an imitation of nature, it's transmutation ; because immediate poetic experience is elaborated in secret. And when contact is made with reality or rough uneven material, two parallel lines always finally meet before infinity." John Misik, December 2000
She studied at Aubusson National Decorative Arts School in 1967 and 1968. Travelled in eastern Africa between 1970 and 1973.

Mireille LABORIE

Mireille LABORIE, an engraver/painter, was born in Nîmes and lives and works in Languedoc Roussillon. "Most of Mireille Laborie's works have somme connection with the idea of confinement and protection. A secret phenomenon, a metamorphosis is taking place out of sight, like a caterpillar inside a cocoon, a seed underground or an embryo in a womb, nature's slow working whose trace is evidenced in the woven wood volumes which bring to my mind the word chrysalis, an empty envelope the insect has dropped by the wayside, the shape of a life which has fled so as to be reproduced elsewhere in the life cycle beginning again and again d infinitum."... Art and Bambouseraie

The Bambouseraie’s vocation is not only to help people to get to know, become familiar with and appreciate bamboo, but also plants in general. The Bambouseraie, whose managers believe that a botanical garden is not just a collection of rare plants, considers one of its functions to be bringing people together, facilitating meeting, crossbreeding knowledge and linking cultures.

It is in this spirit that the Bambouseraie welcomes artists whose works are often inspired by vegetation. So since 1977 many sculptors, Land Art artists and painters have been exposing their work on the Bambouseraie’s paths and clearings.

In 2005, the work of six artists were grouped together in an exhibition : Alain Platet, Christian d’Haese, Antoinette Bugard, Alexandra Prokovich, Corinne Bécot and Alain Meiller who, through the title of the exhibition, “Looking at the Bambouseraie”, suggested to visitors a different way of looking at plant life.

In 2006, for the Bambouseraie’s 150th anniversary : Marcel Robelin, Martine Lafon, Tieri Lancereau-Monthubert.

In 2007 : Mireille Fulpius and Denise Corroyer.

In 2008 : Régine Lehmann and Emmanuel Fillot.

In 2009 : Bernadette Chéné and Paca Sanchez.
